Sweet and fruity malt aroma, with caramel and cherries. Flavor is sweet and roasted malt, again with cherries and maybe some vanilla, and ending with a bit of tart fruit and hops. Seems to have a bit of bock character mixed in with the dunkel. Pretty good. wilderthanyou (423), Guelph, Ontario, Canada
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Feb 24, 2007 Pours a dark ruby red colour, barely any head. Aroma is of chocolates and malts. Flavor of toffee, bitter chocolate and malts. I found though that this beer felt rather watery, and the flavors felt almost subdued, not really reaching their full potential, hops were very very faint, I found the finish to be kind of sweet. Not a bad beer or anything, but I don’t think I will purchase it again. JasonG (701), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA

A very nice brew. BrendanC (31), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Feb 21, 2007 Pours an opaque brown with a thin head, which disappeared quickly. Smoky aroma. Noticeable, but not overwhelming, hop flavor. Left a bitter, citrusy aftertaste. Decent, but certainly not one of my favorite darker beers. Wiseblood (658), Clarksville, Tennessee, USA

Flavors of roasted malts and caramel. Some hops balance out the sweetness midway. Ends with a bitter tartness. Clean and balanced with an overall roasty sweetness. jredmond (1074), New Jersey, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 22, 2006 i shall start out by saying the lack of appearance is the head. i have no clue why, but out of a 12pk sampler, i never got a good pour. the lack of a palate is ok, because the drinkability is quite solid.
overall, this is a very smooth dark brew. it’s definitely a session for me. there’s a chewy chocolate in the aroma that is mirrored in the taste, luckily the hops come around on the taste, because they are barely noticable on the aroma. there’s also a little coffee on the palate, which is pleasant for a session. it’s a very smooth darker brew that i could very well sip all night. unfortunately, the sampler only comes with three. this is definitely a brew i will purchase in the future. Mid mouth feel, an easy drink as well malted with toffee, a drop of coffee. An OK dunkel, a very good American brown, the later because of root beer like secondary tastes.Well carbonated.
