Commercial Description:
Inspired by the centuries-old Bavarian beer, our Harpoon Munich Dark has a dark, balanced maltiness complimented with a moderate hop finish. We introduced this beer in 1998 and received first prize for Best Beer Overall of 1998 in BarleyCorn Magazine

Thought this was decent, part of a mix and match 12 pack. Not as good as some of the other Harpoon beers. Maybe have been spoiled by them in the past.

Bottle from Jungle Jim’s. Poured dark brown with a large frothy light brown head that lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a thin texture. Moderate toasted malt flavor with a small biiter hop finish of average duration. Well balanced drinkable brew.

Sampled at the brewery, dark brown color and reddish highlights, with a tan-colored head, nice toasted malt, caramelized malt, and brown sugar in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a roasted malt character, hint of chocolate, sweet malty flavors, with a brown sugar and dried dark fruits notes, leading towards a good sweet caramel and a low bittering hop finish.

This appears to be a house beer brewed for Henrietta’s Table at the Charles Hotel. It was a reddish brown ale, not too dark or opaque, clear enough for visible carbonation with large bubbles and a small head. A bit thin in the mouth, not surprising given appearance. A non descript nose and flavor, without much intensity or complexity. I can find lots of references to the beer online but no prior reviews.

From bottle
Poured dark with dark ruby highlights. Fast dissipating white head. Aroma of caramel malts, licorice, and wet dog. Flavor of strong chocolate malts, and hop bitterness in the end. Very carbonated. light to medium bodied. Chewy mouthfeel.
