Dark red-brown, clear, with a fairly plucky tan head. Bready and malty aroma, body is smooth, easy drinking, maybe a tad thin. Malt sweetness balanced with a clean nutty character. Mild bitterness. mrkimchee (1414), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 3, 2005 Dark color. Fair amount of carbonation. Bready mouthfeel and taste. Not too complex, wouldn’t be a bad session beer. Basically, another decent offering from a consistent brewery. badnewsbeers (1026), Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA

| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | May 31, 2005 Dark mahogany with orange highlites under a small stone khaki head. Not much going on in the aroma save for some sweet malty, caramel, nutty notes. Uninspiring flavors that reminded me a bit of a "better" pale lager. No depth, no complexity, just some malt, a little toffee an some brown sugar. Very restrained hop presence but enough to keep the malt in check. Finish was dry and mouthfeel was thin. Overall, not a bad beer but not a beer that gives you much of a reason for wanting another. OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 27, 2005 Bottle 12 oz - Pours brown with ruby highlights a decent offwhite head laces the glass on the way down.. Aroma is strong of caramel malts with a touch of hops. Taste is very malty, caramel, a touch of coffee, maybe some milk chocolate. On the palate this is very balanced smooth and tasty.. Malty, but a little on the watery side but pretty typical for a dunkel. I liked this. Better than expected.. A very drinkable dunkel. RateandPillage (417), Atlanta, Georgia, USA
