Commercial Description:
Inspired by the centuries-old Bavarian beer, our Harpoon Munich Dark has a dark, balanced maltiness complimented with a moderate hop finish. We introduced this beer in 1998 and received first prize for Best Beer Overall of 1998 in BarleyCorn Magazine

Note: This was bought before the boycott of Mutual products in North Carolina started. From a bottle. Dark ruby brown color. Chocolatey and malty in aroma. Rich chocolate flavor with some hops in the finish. It’s a decent beer and probably my favorite of the Harpoon’s that I’ve tried.

Tasted in Toronto. Obtained from in-laws from a recent trip to North Carolina. Appearance is dark ruby red / brown, clear, with sustained white head. Aroma is sweet and malty. Flavour is somewhat balanced with a malty sweet beginning and a pungent / floral hoppy finish.

Dark brown with a tint of brick red, small light tan head. Sweet caramel maltiness; the medium to bold maltiness is somewhat overpowered by the strong sweetness. This seems sweeter than most dark brews I have tasted, but this is nice, very tasty. Not as dark and full bodied as other dark beers, but very pleasurable.

From cask at Bukowski (Cambridge), though from the looks and feel of this it seems like it came from a nitro-tap, weird. Dark brown color, with a largely malty aroma. Medium body, nuts, sweet, too much so for my liking, could use a bit more tobacco and smokiness for the style. Not bad though .

I really enjoyed this beer. It’s a very dark copper color pour with minimal head. Not very hoppy at all, malts really come through in the flavor. Very smooth drinking and well balanced.

Tap. Nice deep amber/light brown color with nice highlights and a good initial head. Aroma is slightly roasty with a good amount of munich and crystal character. Very low hoppiness makes it smootha nd sweet but not cloying. Nice and easy drinking dunkel.

(From the sample 12 pack) Pours a nice deep red-brown body with a bit of active carbonation and a nice tan head. Sweet roasty/malty flavor that has an unexpected hop bite. Bitter in the end, medium-light bodied.
