Some slightly malty vegetal notes to the nose. The flavors are reminiscent of a dry, toasted nut brown. Malt and toast on the forefront and mid-palates, with a lingering toasty bitter finish bringing on some esters from time to time. Nothing overdone, and not a bad job here. The mouthfeel is round and just shy of "lively". This brew doesn’t show a lot of diversity from it’s other family offerings, but makes for a decent pull. rodneykm (109), Westminster, South Carolina, USA

| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 8, 2008 This dark Bavarian inspired beer pours a very dark copper color with a dark ruby red hue. A big frothy tan head sits on top which hangs out for awhile and left behind delicate lacing on the glass. The aroma is sweet and bready with a light hopy and nutty character. Its flavor is full of dark sweet malts. There are burnt caramel, dark toast and chocolate notes over a moderately bitter hops. The malt sweetness lingers into the finish. It has nice medium body with good carbonation a silky smooth texture. I really enjoyed this beer and would defiantly recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark Munich style beers. craftbeerdesign (761), Alpharetta, Georgia, USA

| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 28, 2008 bottle from beerbill. dark cherry stained wood colored beer with a small light tan head. aroma is mostly malt with hints of yeast, coffee and some smokiness. the flavor is lightly sweet and malty with notes of a strange fruitiness and grassy hops. it gets acidic toward the finish and leaves a banana like aftertaste. light to medium body, crisp texture and a watery mouth feel. really rather uninteresting. beerbill (1973), Laurel, New York, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 19, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown with some faint reddish brown highlights when held against light. Moderate off-white head that disappeared after the first two sips. Pleasant but very light aroma of coffee and malt. The flavor is unfortunately equally light with some short-lived malt and a bit of lingering hops bitterness. Not a bad beer, but a very dull and frankly uninteresting one. Tweety (344), Vancouver, Washington, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 19, 2008 Tap at the Middle East Club. A classic German Dunkel, pours a dark brown. A touch of sweetness in the flavor, transitioning into a dryer finish. Very enjoyable. About as close as you can get to a true Munich dunkel in the US.
