first time having a dunkel. Thick creamy and tan head, lasting a while. Smell of malt and hops. Flavor is good, malty and hint of hops and some sort of fruit. Dry finish. All the reviews say that this is not a dunkel. I cannot attest for that, but I can say that I think it is a damn good beer.

12oz bottle purchased as part of a mixed 12 pack at Market Basket. Pours a translucent dark brown with a good half inch of light tan head. Smells sweet, with chocolate and caramel malt character with banana and nut playing roles. Nut, chocolate, coffee comprise most of the flavor, hints at peatiness? Chocolate dominates the finish and aftertaste. Medium-bodied with moderate carbonation. Full-flavored with no real perceivable flaws. A solid brown ale, and another slam dunk for Harpoon!

This dark Bavarian inspired beer pours a very dark copper color with a dark ruby red hue. A big frothy tan head sits on top which hangs out for awhile and left behind delicate lacing on the glass. The aroma is sweet and bready with a light hopy and nutty character. Its flavor is full of dark sweet malts. There are burnt caramel, dark toast and chocolate notes over a moderately bitter hops. The malt sweetness lingers into the finish. It has nice medium body with good carbonation a silky smooth texture. I really enjoyed this beer and would defiantly recommend this to anyone who enjoys dark Munich style beers.

Pretty good. Clean in flavor. Dark in color. Caramel notes to it. Not a bad beer. Good beer made by Harpoon. I enjoyed it. Roasty.

Undated single bottle. Astonishingly good! Great chocolate flavor – almost a chocolate soda, with great carbonation. Reminded me of Fullers Porter at first sip… probably not true to the Dunkel style, but very tasty.

Smelled like roasted hazelnuts and carob. Poured with a smallish fading head. Nice feel almost approaches a watery porter. Well balanced flavors and benefits from a good hop/malt ratio. Solid.

Pours out a red so dark it looks brown until held up to the light with a tannish head that does not last very long. Smells of cherries, bananas, and oak. Tastes of brown sugar, malt and chocolate with a smooth finish. Crisp mouthfeel. Interesting full textured beer for Harpoon.
