Commercial Description:
UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen is our own interpretation of the European practice of adding fruit flavors to wheat beers. We have added natural raspberry flavor to our UFO Hefeweizen to give it a delicate fruit flavor and slight sweetness. The raspberry juice adds a rich color to the cloudy, unfiltered beer, yielding a soft reddish hue. The scent of the berries mixes with the lightly hopped beer aroma. The raspberries are balanced by UFO Hefeweizen’s clean, wheat beer taste, making this beer enjoyable and refreshing.

Bottle. Cloudy white colour. Flavour is sweet, cereal with a decent fruit sharpness. It’s refreshing but nothing more than that.

Pinkish pour. Nose is raspberry puree and some light wheat. Flavor is much the same, mostly overly sweet and slightly fake. Some stale wheat evens it out a bit. Not something I have ever really enjoyed.

Bottle. Pours a pinkish hazy color with a small white fizzy head. Nose is raspberry purée and sugar. Palate is fizzy and a little sticky. Flavor is light stale malt notes with the sugary raspberry purée.

On tap at Harpoon Brewery, 8 October 2009. Sweet and a bit sickly. Lots of raspberry but it seemed rather synthetic - not too many real raspberries been near this methinks. Certainly not aimed at beer geeks and not very enjoyable for me.

Overwhelmingly raspberry nose. Tastes tart and terrible. Hate this style of fruit crap beer. Yuck

pours clear pink/orange, white head. Aroma is mostly of raspberries and wheat. Flavor, raspberries, wheat with some lingering bitterness and hops. Overall dry finish, raspberry is light and refreshing not leaving any tart finish that usually characterizes this fruit.

Bottle: Poured a reddish color with a pink head. The aroma was fruit and wheat. The flavor was raspberries, cherries, and yeast. Overall, not bad but a little too watered down and sweet for my liking.

The guys at work and I get together once a month to share 6ers and try some new beers. One member of this group brings really weak fruit beers (which pisses off everyone else) every time and this doozy was September’s selection. Pours a hazy amber yellow color with slight fizzy white head. Aroma is wheat, spices, grass, and of course raspberry. Flavor was dominated by the raspberry tartness, much more so than I expected. Otherwise slight hefe yeast flavor and a bit watery. Not good.
