Poureda dark yellowish brown with beady head. Nose is caramel and quite interesting. In the mouth it is fizzy and haas that quality that comes with a sub par beermaking. Unfortunately there is not lot going on here.

Big bottle. Pours clear golden amber with a medium white head that shows surprisingly good retention. Quite nice aromas of sweet caramel and fruit, pear maybe. The palate is thin and the flavours are muted compared to the aroma. There is a mildly soapy note i the very finish. It’s too bad the palate didn’t live up to the aroma, as this ended up being quite forgettable really.

Draught. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma and flavour of malt, caramel and only a touch of hops. Light bitter finish. One dimensional.

Aroma of straw malt, almost skunky. Very very mild notes of coffee. A cardboard, off aroma. Flavours are soapy, almost phenolic. A candy sweetness shrouds everything... Bready malt in there somewhere. This beer could have been something with a little more hop, and consequently a little more bitterness.

Bottle, pours a golden amber with a white filmy head. An earthy malt aroma, a touch of caramal, not as sweet as most "Kiwi Draughts". Thin, metallic, dialctyl - yuck! Yip, this is a "Kiwi Draught".

Draught. Standard NZ brown, sweet, malt, hopless beer. Nothing more to say really.

(Bottle 64 cl) Courtesy of Diana R. Clear, deep golden with a bubbly, off-white head that dissipates rather quickly. Very sweet malt aroma. Fairly light in body with notes of sweet, grainy malt and an almost absent bitterness. Sadly this just reminds me of a plain DB as I remember it from 20 years ago. 220108

Tasted 25/10/2007. 750ml bottle from BrewNZ. Slightly burnished yellow gold, paler then the usual Kiwi ’brown’. Bright. Disappearing white head. Nose has tropical fruit esters with a little apple, reminding me of Fresh Up. Clean and off-dry in the mouth. Medium fizz, that bites a little given the lack of weight. Short, slightly estery finish. A pretty well-made beer but an average, uninteresting recipe. My dad, used to tasting all of the esoteric styles I put in front of him, exclaimed "It smells like a typical pub beer!". It was like he’d spotted a Takahe in the wild. Classic beer drinking moment.
