Commercial Description:
A very dark beer, as unique as the tradition that created it. Choice aromatic hops, black malt and crystal-clear mountain spring water give this dark beer its distinctive, nutty flavour. The time-tested historic recipe, the classic brewing method and the secret of just enough extra hops make Hartmann’s Erbschänk 1550 a satisfying full-bodied beer.

Sampled at DØE Beerfestival 2009, Valby. Pours a darkbrown beer with an offwhite head. The aroma is malt, sweetness and caramel. The flavor follows the nose, but is a little weak. The palate is weak and overall this is a boring beer.

Bottle. Dark brown-red in the light, beige fizzy cap. Mild sweet aroma has cherries. Quaffable palate. Reasonable complexity here with a little roast, some sour cherry and some sugars. Not bad.
