tsarman (794), Northern, New Jersey, USA Mar 29, 2004 Great local brewpub did a good job. Though using the name Trappist for the beer might be sacrilege (or illegal) it is a very good example of the style. Strong brew of about 8-9%. Essence of chocolate and banana fill the mouth instantly. Dark for a dubbel, but just as delicious. A Pleasant surprise.
Dogbrick (2229), Columbus, Ohio, USA Sep 2, 2003 I never would have guessed this was a Dubbel until I asked after sampling it. The beer is a dark brown color with a medium thin beige head. The aroma consists of roasted coffee and chocolate. Medium bodied with a pleasantly roasty aspect, and flavors of malt, banana, clove and chocolate. I kind of thought this leaned toward a Porter except for some of the flavors. Interesting nonetheless.
