Comments: A certain fruitiness from the yeast keeps the interest level up for this rather chewy and thick stout with a pungent mineral character.

Palate is lightly sweet to start, but combatted nicely in the finish with a nice long roasty malt finish, which also shows notes of dark chocolate, and also rum n’ raisin. This was very nice. Lingering bitterness. Enjoyable and full of character. It has the the clean, lifeless taste of a filtered beer - however, still awesome. chriso (4851), London, Greater London, England

Lots of roasty malt, coffee and chocolate in the aroma. More of the same on the palate. Smooth, but firm, mouthfeel. Quite tarry, but not heavy. Beautifully balanced and possibly the best beer of the day, despite the very strong opposition. I’d love to try this one on cask. Shame it seems to be a one-off.

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Aug 22, 2007 Bottled. Black with a light brown, medium sized head. Weak roast aroma with toffee and caramel and licorice. The roast flavour has notes of smoke and charcoal, and a long lasting burned aftertaste. Seemed a little thin for that rich flavour. fonefan (11878), VestJylland, Denmark

Luscious caramel brown sweetness--deep and comforting in a way I associate with a good doppelbock. Flavor is an oceany iodine, soft sour chocolate, a bit of apple esters, nice chalky bitterness. A real stunner at less than 5%, and one of my most memorable beers of the tasting.
