Mar 20, 2007 Aroma is smokey meat, fried potatos with egg and dog breath. Taste is chestnuts, very nutty and sweet roasted beef, roasty finish. Interesting beer forsure.

Jul 24, 2002 Deep brown to black colour. Raisiny, liqorice aroma, with a bit of roasty coffee flavours. Quite sweet, raisiny anise flavours, with a roasty malt finish, i liked it, but it was a little sweet.

May 18, 2006 500ml bottle, probably a few years old: Pours a nearly opaque with dark brown edges and a thin, creamy tan head. Aroma of sweet toasty dark caramel malts with some aged dark fruitiness and a touch of nutty character and some cardboard. Body starts lightly sweet with some cookie dough and mild brown sugar along with some earthy hoppy bitterness. Finishes drier and slightly chalky with some sherry-like qualities. Probably pretty good if it were fresher.

Jun 26, 2006 Bottled. Dark brown, almost black, with a very small, beige head. Lots of coffee and mocca in the aroma, as well as dark chocolate and a vague fruity note. Balanced flavor with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and dried fruits. A bit thin body and a coffee-ish, roasted, dry, bitter finish. A light, quaffable porter. (060626)

Apr 22, 2005 Bottle with the a.k.a. of Tom Paine’s Original Porter: This pours out almost black, but remains brown with a dark brown, slender head. The aroma is bitter chocolate with deep roasted malts and traces of coffee. Very smooth in the mouth, the flavor is roasted malt and dark, burnt chocolate, and some woodiness. It finishes on a dry coffee note. Very satisfying.

Dec 1, 2004 Very dark brown color with a small tiny bubbled tan head. Lightly oily and silky feel. Fig pudding and treacle aromas. Treacle and mild earthy malt flavors. Light iron and thin port finish.
