1pt bottle labeled Harvey’s Tom Paine Old Porter - Pours black with a creamy tan head that laces and lingers pretty well. Aroma is of molasses and brown sugar and a touch of caramel. Flavor is similar with some smoky notes as well. Not as strong of a flavor as other porters that I have liked more. Palate is very nice. A creamy mouth coating drink this one is easy to put down in a hurry. Not bad.. Just not great!

Pours a deep dark brown with a light tan head. The aroma has chocolate and roasted notes. The flavor is moderatly roasted with a dark chocolate background and a slightly sweet finish.

Bottled. Dark brown, almost black, with a very small, beige head. Lots of coffee and mocca in the aroma, as well as dark chocolate and a vague fruity note. Balanced flavor with roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and dried fruits. A bit thin body and a coffee-ish, roasted, dry, bitter finish. A light, quaffable porter. (060626)

500ml bottle, 4.8% a/v Pours BLACK. Smallish brown head. Molasses, chocolate and slightly herbal. Taste is chocolate and molasses, with a very nice clean dry finish. Very well done.

Brown bottle, 500 ml, purchased at the LCBO, savoured on May 2 2008; eye: mahogany, clear, beige head that falls to leave a tiny ring, good lacing; nose: roasting, vanilla, light chocolate; mouth: roasted malt, light acridness, lightly lactic, dryness present throughout, a bit watery, chocolate milk, a bit of hops appears toward the finale, finale in roasted malt with a hint of vanilla, lightly sweet, mildly bitter, medium body, creamy texture, not much carbonation, light astringency; overall: quite likable FFRANÇAIS Bouteille brune, 500 ml, achetée à la LCBO, savourée le 2 mai 2008; œil : acajou, claire, mousse beige qui tombe pour laisser place à un petit anneau, bonne dentelle; nez : torréfaction, vanille, léger chocolat; bouche : malt torréfié, légère âcreté, légèrement lactique, sécheresse présent tout au long de la gorgée, un p’tit côté aqueux, lait au chocolat, un peu de houblon qui apparaît vers la fin, mélasse, finale en torréfaction avec une pointe de vanille, légèrement sucrée, moyennement amère, corps moyen, texture crémeuse, peu carbonatée, légère astringence; en résumé : bien aimé

App.: Deep ruby-black, presumably clear, smallish mocha head. Aroma: Quite fruity – lots of dates and prunes, some cherries and tree fruits, green notes (hops?), slightly smoky, flinty dark malts, a bit of molasses, Palate: Medium body, barely a hint of carbonation. Flav.: Still lots of prunes and dark fruits but more malty, a bit of dark bread crust, some ashen dark malts a bit of strong black coffee, hints of leafy hops; dry, a slight hint of tartness, moderately bitter with a strong aftertaste of dark-roasted malts.

275ml bottle from the brewery shop. Pours black with a tan film. Roasted coffee aroma with some nice herbal hints. Palate is a bit thin though it does have a creamy finish. The flavour is robust with a nice balance of coffee & chocolate notes with fruity hints. Overall, this is an easy drinking porter, but perhaps not a true classic to seek out.

500ml bottle bought at a deli in Petersfield, Hants. Dark brown with reddish undertones and a decent, frothy off-white head that left plenty of lacing. Aroma of dark chocolate, caramel and roasted malts. Full mouth feel, with more sweetness to start, bitter chocolate, coffee and spice. Decent bitter finish with a touch of raisin fruit. Very enjoyable.
