Jan 9, 2008 500 ml bottle courtesy jerc, best before JUN08. Dark ruby amber colour with a mostly diminishing frothy off-white head. Lightly acidic and roasty coffee aroma with notes of bittersweet chocolate. Bittersweet chocolate, lightly roasty, lightly acidic, and fruity flavours with a faint metallic tinge in the roasty finish. Medium bodied, smooth and almost silky mouthfeel.

Apr 3, 2008 Aroma of molasses, brown sugar, cocoa, toasted malt and chicory, black, ruby at the sides, a small firm cappuccino head, and lots of lace. Flavour is liquorice, roasted malt, salty black bread, oats, strong coffee and dark chocolate. Rich, full bodied, very well balanced, bitter, dizzying tongue texture. Terrific! Finally got this through the LCBO.

Nov 14, 2006 Bottle. Deep dark brown color, almost black. Grapes and roasted malt in the aroma. Coffee, roasted malt and grapes in the flavor. Just a touch of malty sweetness. Very pleasant beer, although a bit thin.

Dec 28, 2004 Dark brown, not black, and loosely formed head. Gentle coffee aroma but also milk and grape. Moderately short finish, caramel, toasty, roasted, and some cardboard. Pretty good if you get past a slightly lactic edge. (2004 Christmas Party, my #11, group’s #5)

Feb 16, 2005 Pours with a one-finger light tan head that fades slowly leaving a good lace. Deep amber color almost black. Good carbonation and light-medium bodied. Nose is chocolate. Starts with a sweetish molasses flavor, finish is slightly bitter chocolate. $4.25 for a 500ml bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, MA..

Jan 18, 2005 Whatever the name, this was pretty good. Nice dark body, almost black. Complex nose: coffee, choclate, vanilla, smokiness. Sweet. Medium bodied and nice smooth feel in the mouth. Minimal carbonation. Good flavor. Sweetness but not cloying. Chocolate, coffee. Good stuff.
