BückDich (4491), Boise, Idaho, USA Apr 27, 2008 Bottle: Pours a dark black color with light tan hints of light. The nose is lightly spicy with some peat and roast; subtle coffee and a wooden smoked honey hint. A decent amount of whiskey smells. The flavor is balanced with a nice citrusy whiskey note and a chewy malty body. Fresh and springy compared to the other 2, but still reminds me of a velvet chair by a fireplace with a snifter.
heemer77 (3609), North Liberty, Iowa, USA Jul 17, 2008 Perfectly black body with a light tan head clinging to the sides of the snifter. The aroma is much milder than the 16 year old. It has notes of oak and only some light peat. There is also some dusty caramel and old leather. The taste has light notes of leather and toffee up front. In the finish, you get some fresh grass clippings and some tobacco. There is also a hint of salty seaweed, and it is interesting. A nicely crafted brew that I enjoyed more than the 16 year old. SDalkoholic (1005), Chula Vista, California, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle from South Bay Drugs. Pours a dark black liquid with a small o-ring of foam. The nose is a dark malt with a background of bourbon or wood barrels. The flavor has a strong tasting of coffee and woody whiskey barrels, it also has bitter hop bite to it with a hearty dosage of warm alcohol. Bigmmartin (126), Dayton, Ohio, USA Jul 13, 2008 Bottle. Enjoyable Old Ale. Contains some sweet roasted malts in the aroma. Taste is sweet malt, chocolate, a few hops sneak in there as well. You can also taste the results of the cask aging, with a slight whiskey flavor as well. ABV is noticeably present, but not too much. A pretty good British beer that will make me go try Old Engine Oil as well. 1_2many (124), Ohio, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle and first from these guys. Impressive for a random beer from Belmont’s. Lots of dark malt on the nose with some bitter hops but I can’t really identify what kind. Very sweet with a long bitterness at the end. Smooth palate which lays on the tongue for a while. Not bad. Sammy (2959), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 9, 2008 First of the series, retrieved at State Line Liquor, and most promising. Aroma is of an imperial stout with some whiskey. Black body. Creamy mouthfeel with whiskey, chocolate, ah a drinkable pleasure rather than bourbon. A bit woody. Most satisfying.
