Pours a deep rich murky black body and a wispy tan head. The aroma notes of roasted malts, coffee, coco and largely suggests the peat smoke and whisky barrel. I enjoy the way that the Whisky barrel interacts with the characters of the old ale in the flavor. Seems like less oxidation on the beer, but I’m sure it’s just the whisky overpowering the roasty oxidized malts. The palate is sticky and oily, a bit gritty. Finishes dry yet molasses sweet. A fine brew indeed!

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Nov 6, 2009 BLACK - black oil is right. No head to speak of but a few bubbles can be stirred up with a little shake. Big rich raisiny nose, plums, toffee, roasty and sweet with a hint of whiskey and vanilla. Dry roasty flavor, a hint of earthiness to this. Slight burn from alcohol but blends well. Sharp on the tongue. Palate actually thin for style. Aroma is the real treat but the beer is full of flavor Svesse (2613), Hässelby, Sweden
