Bottle from Brandon. Thanks. I have seen this in the stores, but never bought any- now that I know it is aged in a Scotch barrel, I will probably seek out the rest. Very dark color, black almost, with a little bit of a tan head on it. Smell is smoky peat, fruity, chocolate, some alcohol, but mostly dominated by peat. Taste is smooth and very much like drinking a scotch. The Highland Park really shows in this beer, and since I drink nothing but scotch, it is a very good thing to see a beer aged in a Scotch cask. More brewers need to catch on and do this. I could only imagine how much better this would be if it was actually aged in a good Scotch cask. Very good stuff, a no brainer for me.

Oct 6, 2008 12 oz bottle, pours black with a ruby tinge around the edges. Head is thin, frothy, and tan and dissipates fully, leaving no lacing. Wonderful aroma of smoke, wood, bitter chocolate, whiskey, and dark fruits. Aroma is better than taste, however. Taste of smokey wood, roasted malt, bitter dark chocolate. Thin and oily mouthfeel.

Oct 5, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours a very dark brown/black color with a thin tan film for a head. The aroma has dark fruits, whisky, wood, roast, and moderate sweetness. The flavor has roasted malt, whisky, charred wood, a light hint of the dark fruits from the nose. I get a growing peatiness with each drink and I’m not sure that I like it. There is no carbonation to this at all. Medium to full bodied and a bit oily going down.

Roasted flavour of dried fruits and chocolate with notes of coffee.
Roasted and warming alcoholc finish.

Oct 1, 2008 Taster from a bottle at EBF 08. Naked, black body with display of laceworks on the glass. Peaty aroma of vanilla oak and spices. Sharp, initial whisky-like taste followed by liquorice and smoked malts. The whisky touch was more noticeable in this one compared with the variants aged in 16 and 30 year old casks (12.09.2008).

Aroma is chocolate roast malt, some molasses, vanilla and dark cherry tones. a whiff of alc.
Flavour is lighter than I expected it to be.
Mouthfeel is a touch oily feeling.
Very smooth initially, tangy sweetness, some smokey peaty tones towards the finish. Woody hop. Definitely a Whiskey profile as it warms more and more.
