Full bodied. Malty and peaty flavor with dark chocolate. This peat and oak hide the body of this beer. Good complexity. aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | May 11, 2008 IThis is a pretty well-done whisky-barrel-aged beer. The beer itself is fairly light in body (for its size) and lacking the aggressive flavor of it’s American counterparts, it could have easily been overwhelmed by the whisky. I’m surprised, but this beer (which I’m assuming is the same base recipe as the 12 year, but with this one the whisky note is more mellow. There’s still that little charred wood bit, but it’s balanced out more by the chocolate notes. this is the better of the two. ChristianScheffel (4557), Odense, Denmark

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Mar 23, 2008 Dark black body and a foamy head formed after a cascade of bubbles made for a very Porter like appearance. A shade more brown than the 30 year cask version. The smell was mild at first but started to grow on me with the mix of roasted grains, black coffee, and tobacco. The taste was little more roasty and tannin laced than the older casked beer, and there wasn’t as much of a vanilla bean character. Alcohol was warming and and soothing. Mouthfeel was quite astringent. Very well crafter beer, but the special 30 is better. iowaherkeye (1860), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 10, 2009 11.2oz bottled Sept 2007. Clear deep brown pour--black in the glass--with a one finger tan head, pretty good retention. Smoky, lightly salty whisky up front with some oak behind. There is also a pretty good deal of chocolate and molasses, light roast, plums and vanilla. Flavor follows suit pretty smoothly until the finish, when it gets a little burnt. Bitterness peaked @ a 2-3, and only light alcohol was noted. The whisky never overpowered, which was nice. Medium-full smooth creamy body with light carbonation. Good beer. illinismitty (1799), Nashville, Tennessee, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | May 14, 2008 Bottle from Frugal McDugal in Nashville, TN. Pours a deep dark brown with a milky brown head. Strong amounts of chocolate and dark roast in the nose. Full bodied, but with soft carbonation and smooth oily texture. This goes through a roller coaster of flavors, starting with chocolate and subtle scotch, then moving to sweet notes of vanilla. Mid palate brings on accents of smoke, peat, and ash. The dry and peppery finish has some warming alcohol followed by lingering notes of charred wood. Very complex and well brewed, but just way to may smoke going on here for me. I was hoping for more scotch, but got more of the barrel. Fans of smoked beers should dig this. This is definitely better as it gets closer to room temp ATLBeerDog (280), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

Poured dark brown approaching black, virtually no head. Super light lacing. Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, caramel, and toffee.

On first taste, a pleasant complexity gives way to the whiskey overtones. A dry but crisp bitterness follows. Like it’s little brother OD12, OD16 is well under carbonated.

As the OD16 warms the complexity strengthens and other flavors begin to make their way to the front of the class. Maturing in those 16 year old whisky casks, OD16 does not hide its ABV very well. Just the opposite, this beer tastes like a 10 to 12+%’er. It is only 8%

I would love to see this one at a higher ABV and with a bunch more carbonation. Still Quite Tasty and Yummy!

Coffee, hints of peat and whiskey notes. Subdued with a light chocolate and coffee accents, with a hint of fruit to finish. Good brew.
