Commercial Description:
Ola Dubh (or ‘Black Oil’) is a collaboration between Harviestoun Brewery and Highland Park, Distiller of the Year*. It is based on Harviestoun’s award-winning Old Engine Oil. With more than a stylistic nod to the classic Imperial Porters (and Stouts) of the nineteenth century, this deliciously rich, dark, 8% a.b.v. beer is the first ale to be aged in malt whisky casks from a named distillery and, with traceable casks and numbered bottles, the first with genuine provenance. This version is aged in Highland Park 40 Year whisky casks.

Bottle. Almost black with a beige head. Rich Islay whisky aroma, yet subtle. Iodine balanced by caramel with vanilla and chocolate lurking by. In the mouth a complex blend of iodine and chocolate, that actually works, with the former in the lead. Vanilla plays a reconcilitary role. Silky texture, no carbonation to speak of. Among the most recommended late-night-caps, especially if you are a whisky connoisseur with a sweet tooth.

Bottle #54922 from Party Town. Poured black color with a minimal brown creamy head that mostly diminished with good lacing. Heavy aroma of caramel, woody and toasted malt. Medium to full body with smooth texture and flat carbonation . Same as the other two, medium to heavy dark woody bourbon flavor with a medium to heavy smoked sweet whiskey finish of moderate duration. My expectations were met with a complex smooth brew.

bottle thanks to bullzeye. Black pour with thinnish head. Aroma of bourbon, smokiness, vanilla, toastiness. Somebody said almond joy and that is accurate. Flavor is leather and bourbon. Medium/smooth mouthfeel. Nice bourbony beer.

On cask at Churchkey in Washington DC. 7oz snifter. Opaque, oily black with a soft, faint, white ring of head that lines the outside of the glass. Very light carbonation. Boozy aroma, grainy, dark fruits, toast, nuts. Flavor is heavy on the booze, woody, brown sugar, whiskey, corn, toast, coffee molasses. Thick and oily in the mouth, a little salty. Very drinkable.

330 ml bottle. Black body with a small beige head that disappears. Aroma is whisky, vanilla, roasted malt, wood, discrete peat and alcohol. Flavor is roasted malt, vanilla, wood, smoke, coffee and a hint of peat whisky. This is very balanced and harmonic, it’s a while since I sampled 16 and 18 year so I really can’t tell if there is any big difference. I love the other one’s as well and am just happy to have the opportunity to sample any of these any time. They are all masterpieces and just make me relaxes and happy with my life.

Opaque black with a small, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, whisky, vanilla, nuts, smoke, and alcohol. Taste of dark chocolate, roast, smoked wood, whisky, and prickly carbonation.

Flat, thick, black-brownish body.small creamy light brown head. virtually none lacing. mostly diminishing longevity. aroma: light malty, milk chocolate, mild coffee and a gush of whisky so strong that it scared me.if: light sweetness and bitterness. ff: light sweetness and moderate bitterness. long duration. palate: medium to full body, creamy texture, lively carbonation and moderate alcoholic finish. gosto de whisky. lembra mate torrado.
