Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Pours dark, almost black, with a small vanishing head. Roasted, malty taste with some liquorice and dark chocolate. Mildly carbonated, smooth mouthfeel. Slightly bittersweet aftertaste.

Århus2008. 33 cL bottle. Pours dark brown to black wth a redish glare and a lacing light tan head. Mild chocolate, malty and liqourice aroma. Flavour is roasted malt and liqourice with a light acidic touch. Ends with a liqourice and roasted flavour. Nice one.

Dense black pour with a dark brown head that disappears. Smells like a roasty porter with a bite of chocolate and black coffee underneath. Tingles the tongue I would almost say it is a light drinker. Roasted malt and chocolate bitterness finish out this one in a good way. Not sure why this is an old ale though.

Thick black color with just a hit of red. Wheat colored head that disapates rather quickly. Sweet caramel and licorice notes on the nose. Thick cocoa, tobacco, a bit of cola from the carbination. Clean dry finish, which is nice for a beer this dark in flavor.

Bottle. Pours opaque black with a very thin, whispy tan head. Aroma is roasty, coffee, bittersweet cocoa. Taste is roasty, coffee and very dark chocolate, balanced by a hop dryness, with hints of sweetness and smoke underneath. Finish is roasty, with a very slight, lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, maybe a little bit more watery than expected, moderate to low carbonation.

wow this is one dark beer, pours really black just like the name says. The smell is strong with roasted coffee bean smell. Flavor is very smooth, a lot of malts chocolate and coffee flavor is dominant very very good ale.

Jet black with no head, no lacing, and little carbonation. Thick and viscous. "Old Engine Oil" indeed. That’s just what it looks like. Nose of raisins and coffee. Taste of dark chocolate, raisins, plumbs, smoke and burned coffee. Pleasantly bitter coffee-like finish.
