Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered.
A superb, rich, full-bodied beer derived from a 1970s homebrewing recipe. Wickedly smooth chocolate dominates the flavour, which is nicely balanced by the bitterness of the hops.

Draft at Beneluxx in Philly. Pours dark brown with a brown head. Medium bodied, but with a slight watery texture. Aroma of peat, chocolate, and wet grains. Flavor of caramel, chocolate powder, bread, and tobacco with some green apple mid palate. Finish has a slight sourness and astringency, with some dryness as well.

If I had tasted this before and if I were a blond, which I’m not, I immediately would lie down under my car and try to empty the oil from the engine. I simply cannot understand, that this isn’t a stout - so perhaps I AM a blond???? It’s a black beer with a brown hue and almost no head. Both the aroma and the flavour have notes of chocolate, roasted malt and licorice. he mouthfeel is quite oily and there is a nice, just right sweetness - yummi!!!

11. 2 oz bottle. Nearly opaque dark brown with orange/brown highlights and a large tan head that offers up some nice lace. Dark caramel, molasses, and chocolate aroma with some hints of vanilla. Smooth, medium body with very light carbonation add up to a satisfying mouthfeel. Well balanced with sweet malt flavors up front and a soft bitterness that follows to an even, pleasing finish.

Bottle. Pours a pitch black colour with a big creamy nit bubbly light brown well lasting head leaving a good creamy lacing. Lovely aroma of dark bitter chocolate and cocoa with well roasted malt and caramel. Good mouthfeel. The flavour has a nice dark chocolate sweetness with roasted malt, liquorice, roasted caramel and good coffee. Nice well lasting chocolate and coffe finish with a soft roastiness. Great sweet stout......old ale???

This brew poured a dark brown with medium head. A very thick beer, it’s almost a mix between styles of porter and stout, only very rich and malty smooth. There were tastes of licorice and slight nuttiness. Very, very excellent beer, but expensive! $4 for a 12oz bottle. You’ve gotta taste this one once, just for the unique flavor!

Very good beer!! Smooth on the palate and chocolate dominates the flavor. Smelled a little like black licorice to me. Very unique beer which stands out from the rest.

Medium bodied yet black in color. Hints of chocolate, caramel and coffee. Smooth going down. No complaints.

Black pour with a tan ring of bubbles. Roasted malt and nuts, bittersweet chocolate, prunes, and coffee. Not as viscous as advertised. Woody, burnt oats, malt, raisins, barley, weak coffee, and just a little bit of smoke. I expected a stout with the name and look, but got a very good old ale instead.
