Cask@Pullman’s, Helsinki. Deep amber colour, mediumsized head. Aroma is wooden, mild roast, some caramel and mild nectary notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some caramel, wood and a lot of nectar. Aftertaste is mainly wooden with some mild notes of caramel. Not as good as the bottled one. Had a half pint of it the following day too, when the cask was otherwise similar, but the roasted and chocolaty notes had started growing a bunch, making the cask version almost as good as the bottled one.

Dark ruby, almost opaque color, steady creamy beige head, lace. Toasted chocolaty aroma. Soft palate. Toasted, chocolaty flavor with some licorice in it. A bit sticky finish. Very rounded and enjoyable - on cask it is almost a porter than an old ale.

Cask (Pullman, Helsinki)
Almost jet black, healthy tight beige head. Sweet burnt malt aroma. Soft carbonation. Burnt grainy body with bitterness from both the hops and the burntness. Refreshingly light for a 6% beer, it’s also a bit creamy. Finish is grainy and burnt, a little nutty. A good alternative to the bottled version if you want a less heavy beer. A poor alternative to the bottled version if you want a stickier beer.

Very dark pour with a soft, light tan head. Earthy, dry aromas with baked chocolate, dark caramel and coffee. Lots of length on the palate with a hot, dry finish. Plenty of plummy fruit is soon overwhelmed by the other malty components. Surprisingly light and creamy mouthfeel.

Cask at Guildford Arms, Ediburgh. A pitch black beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt as well as medium notes of chocolate. Nice.

Cask at Helsinki beer festival 2006. Reddish black, virtually no carbonation. Aroma and flavor is mildly roasted with coffee and apple. This is a great beer in a bottle but now it tastes like a basic real ale with dominating apple flavor.

Darkest brown coloured ale covered by a large, 1-inch foamy tan head. Immediately coffee-like nose in its initially attacking, but generally subtle roastiness. The toastiness is not subtle at all though and carries on all the way, almond-like and just very nutty in general. Milk chocolate and vanilla complexifying suggestions poke over the smooth palate. Balanced sweetness level. Creamy full body. A fine dessert offering alternating the notes of big cookie doughiness and bread pudding.
