Cask at Guildford Arms, Ediburgh. A pitch black beer with a thick brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of chocolate and roasted malt. The flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of roasted malt as well as medium notes of chocolate. Nice.

Cask at Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. Black, small white head. Aroma of coffee and tar. Sweet and very malty, reeks of freshly ground coffee. Full bodied with notes of plums. Softly poerful and really good.

Cask. Almost black colour, brown hue. Very creamy light brown head. Hoppy aroma. Flavour is also hoppy, sweet, fruity and salty. Soft creamy mouthfeel. Quite easy to drink and is gone far too quickly.

Cask@Pullman’s, Helsinki. Deep amber colour, mediumsized head. Aroma is wooden, mild roast, some caramel and mild nectary notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some caramel, wood and a lot of nectar. Aftertaste is mainly wooden with some mild notes of caramel. Not as good as the bottled one. Had a half pint of it the following day too, when the cask was otherwise similar, but the roasted and chocolaty notes had started growing a bunch, making the cask version almost as good as the bottled one.

Cask handpull at Guildford Arms, Edinburgh. Softer in cask that in bottle. Tarry, good espresso, great mouthfeel. Really rather good. NIce tarry bitter finish. A lot wider in the mouthfeel than the oilier bottled beer. Great to find this on cask. 3.8/5.0 New ABV Cask handpull at Willow Walk ’Sporks. I had this on cask at the old strength in the Guildford Arma, Edinburgh and it was one of the beers of the RBESG 07 for me, so I was interested in this. Black, ruby hints, thin tan head. This is still a tasty beer with smoky charcoal and tarry malts. Good fullness in mouth. Aroma is excellent. Good fruit in mouth. Decent stinging finish. Rounded juicy charcoal in mouth. Excellent. 3.9/5.0

Dark ruby, almost opaque color, steady creamy beige head, lace. Toasted chocolaty aroma. Soft palate. Toasted, chocolaty flavor with some licorice in it. A bit sticky finish. Very rounded and enjoyable - on cask it is almost a porter than an old ale.

A Mes rate: Cask handpull at the Guildford Arms. Black and opaque with a reddish hue at the edges and a good tan head. Dark malty aroma with fruit, figs and lots of coffee. Similar flavour, quite meaty with a coffee and dark chocolate finish. Viscous, oily, smotth and drinkable.

Darkest brown coloured ale covered by a large, 1-inch foamy tan head. Immediately coffee-like nose in its initially attacking, but generally subtle roastiness. The toastiness is not subtle at all though and carries on all the way, almond-like and just very nutty in general. Milk chocolate and vanilla complexifying suggestions poke over the smooth palate. Balanced sweetness level. Creamy full body. A fine dessert offering alternating the notes of big cookie doughiness and bread pudding.
