A hard pour produces a fluffy head of beige, but this whittled and plopped away to a thin cap. Treacle, molasses, toffee, licorice, and whisk(e)y aromatics. Flavors are boozy with the whisk(e)y notes quite noticeable. Sweet, syrupy, and sticky. Raisins noted. A touch of tinny feel in the aftertaste. Malts are burnt and charred, and the whisk(e)y cask imparts a lot of character. 1FastSTi (2588), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2007 Pours to a black body with a tall, lasting, creamy medium brown head. The aroma was hard to get at all. The flavor, fortunately, is not. Nice light milk chocolate and vanilla laden oak with slight whiskey notes. The palate is rich and creamy. Full bodied. Nice texture and really creamy. Very nice and on the finish, I noticed some nice dark fruits. Very under-rated. masonjer (564), Holt, Michigan, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jul 31, 2007 Poured a black color into the glass with a nice sized tan head. Smelled of chocolate, malt, and grain. Taste was heavy grain, some chocolate, grainy and almost milky, with whiskey notes as well. There was a flavor in there that I couldn’t quite figure out. Overall a good beer, but one that I just didn’t come together for me. stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 27, 2007 Bottle sampled. Pours dark with a tan head. Aroma of molasses, roast, oak, smoke, and whiskey. The flavor is roasted malts, smoke, whiskey is definitely present, oak, and a acidic finish. Good brew. Tmoney99 (4793), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 26, 2007 Bottle from Dilly Deli. Poured dark reddish brown color with full brown head that diminished slowly with good lacing. Heavy aroma of caramel, nuts and troasted malt. Medium to full body with sticky texture. Medium toasted sweet balanced flavor with a medium sweet finish of long duration. My expectations were met. too15hype (4), Clifton, New Jersey, USA does not count | 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 19, 2007 My favorite beer because of the flavor, the texture and how you can still taste it after a few minutes. Alot going on with this. patrick767 (2051), fort wayne, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jul 4, 2007 bottle - Pours very dark brown with a two finger tan head that has some legs. The aroma is of roast malt and chocolate, though as it warms it smells more boozy. The flavor is chocolate roast malt and mild but quite noticeable whiskey notes. Full bodied and well balanced, this beer is quite enjoyable. gunhaver (1043), Tampa, Florida, USA

Aromas are strong of chocolate, alcohol and fruits. Taste is complicated and rich. This is an excellent beer.
