Aroma is dark fruits with a little chocolate. Taste is fruity at the beginning then chocolate comes out. Pretty interesting flavor if not a strange combination. Did not notice any whisky characteristics. DrD (61), Lakewood, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 9, 2007 Updated: Mar 30, 2007The color is a stunning black with tawny port highlights. Begins on a rich, figgy, toasted malt note and moves quickly to toffee, port, roasted pecan, and lightly charred oak. The complex, bittersweet toffee note lingers for a good minute...and beyond. A "special" brew indeed... Jmichael (633), Asheville, North Carolina, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 18, 2007 This beer pours a mirky almost stout like brown. The smell is smokey, but still balanced with a nut characteristic.
I love the smell, as a big single malt fan this is my cup of, well, scotch.
The taste is like a rauch beer sort of, it’s got a light bit of smoke and peat with a subtle raison sweetness that is the nly thing that remotely smacks of old ale.
Still though, all in all this is fantastic, to heck with the nay sayers, I like this beer.
