With very little head and lacing. Just a hint of whisky aroma. Along with some malts and a touch of moalssase. Flavor is not what I expected. Nice toush of whiskey, malts, sweetness like a molassase of caramel. With just a hint of a oak maybe. Thick and creamy mouthful. Pleasent aftertaste. I was very surprised by this brew. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 25, 2006 Pours thick black with brown around the edges, but even with a vigerous pour there is little to no head. The aroma is upfront alcohol; wiskey and burbon from the barrels. A bit of a coffee malt comes through after alcohol and there is a thin sweetness also presant. The flavor is very alcohol influenced but also has a very noticable wine fruityness and noticable sweetness. The wiskey barrell flavor is predominant throughout. Nice mix of alcohol, sweetness, and fruityness. SOmewhat finish, but with a clean malty finish. jpm30 (1588), East Central, Georgia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 23, 2006 From a 11.2oz. slender long neck brown bottle with a short blurb about the beer on the back of label. Made a very good appearance, poured like engine oil, a dark, thick ruby hued blackish brown with a large fluffy tan head that settled into a thin, semi-sticky creamy lacing, moderate carbonation overall. Had a whiskey cask nose with some burnt chocolate malts in the background. A smooth, slick, creamy full-ish medium bodied mouth feel, decent sipping drinkability. Lighter on the whiskey cask flavor than the nose would lead you to believe, a nice roasted chocolate malty, a mild earthy hop bitterness, an sneaky alcohol heat in the palate and a roasted sweet malty finish with an lingering alcoholic warmth.

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Apr 14, 2006 Bottle. Dark reddish brown (almost black) beer with no head. Chocolate/soy aroma. Toffee malt flavor with a bit of a light bretty tartness and some fruitiness. Easy drinking, but lacks a lot: low carbonation, lower body than expected, no lasting finish. Just a bit of oakiness and whiskey notes. NYHarvey (2154), New York, New York, USA

Roasted and savory, salt and soy aromas invoke barleywine comparisons. Dark brown with a two finger thick, slowly diminishing, tan head. Fore is burnt and holds black strap molassases, caramel, dark chocolate and only minor whiskey or wood notes. They are becoming stronger as the brew warms, but still are relegated to the finish. All and all an interesting brew with a good flavor range. BeerandBlues2 (3225), Colorado Springs, Colorado, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Apr 9, 2006 11.2-oz. bottle, 2002 vintage. As the name suggests, it pours as pitch, opaque black as spent motor oil, very tiny amount of edgy tan head, stains the glass somewhat. Sour whiskey greets your nose as you pour and bring the glass closer to you, dark chocolate and molasses quickly follow, malt (cookie) and ends with a sourness to the nose. Initially moderately sweet dark, bitter chocolate flavor that soon yields to the sour whiskey, ending with a clean earthy yeast. Dark bodied, thin and oily palate.
