Smoked aroma. Dark and slightly rich on the palate with a crisp and bitter dry smoked finish. Doppelganger (1353), Dry County, Arkansas, USA

Tart coffee and prune aroma. Dry iodine toast flavor, sour, a bit thin. Not getting the US porter influence here. maeib (4774), Wootton, Northampton, Northamptonshire, England

A black beer with a slight, tan coloured head. Some smoky notes in the aroma. Coal in the mouth but lacking body. A slight sweet and sour note. A touch smoky again, and lacking any of the robustness and US hops I expected from the description. Fin (3485), Merton, Oxfordshire, England

Brown in colour with some light cocoa on the nose. Unremarkable in the flavour department but it still manages to tick the right boxes, bit sweet at times but balanced by some hoppiness not bad at all. Cask at Chelmsford Beer Festival. Translucent mahogany colour. Malty aroma with some delicate chocolate. Something fishy going on in the flavour but only slightly. Otherwsie it is nice burnt smoky malt and again some chocolate. Long smoky finish. It’s all quite pleasant but just not quite assertive enough.
