Commercial Description:
Cask, Regular;
More heavily hopped robust porter in the new-world style. Influenced by US brewers, this porter combines the noble hops of Middle Europe with the best of US hops to create a smooth beer.

Cask Handpump at the New Oxford, Salford 24/08/2007 Smoked aroma. Dark and slightly rich on the palate with a crisp and bitter dry smoked finish.

Gravity, ’08 Merton Summer Festival. Deep brown, frothy tan head. Tart coffee and prune aroma. Dry iodine toast flavor, sour, a bit thin. Not getting the US porter influence here.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Merton Summer BF. A black beer with a slight, tan coloured head. Some smoky notes in the aroma. Coal in the mouth but lacking body. A slight sweet and sour note. A touch smoky again, and lacking any of the robustness and US hops I expected from the description.

Cask, gravity dispense at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 18th and 19th 2008 This was sent to us under what I understand to be the correct name, i.e. Parkeston Porter. Brown in colour with some light cocoa on the nose. Unremarkable in the flavour department but it still manages to tick the right boxes, bit sweet at times but balanced by some hoppiness not bad at all.

A Mes rate: Cask at Chelmsford Beer Festival. Translucent mahogany colour. Malty aroma with some delicate chocolate. Something fishy going on in the flavour but only slightly. Otherwsie it is nice burnt smoky malt and again some chocolate. Long smoky finish. It’s all quite pleasant but just not quite assertive enough.
