Commercial Description:
Cask: Regular.
A dark premium beer with an unusual medley of flavours. It is rich and malty with a roasted stout-like edge, yet also light and dry with spiciness and fruit, from the blend of hops: Exuberant American Cascade restrained by traditional English Fuggles with a touch of Bramling Cross.

Rich roasted malt flavours combine with spice and fruit. This quite a mouthful, there’s a hint of bitter chocolate on the finish. Lovely stuff! Bottle, Asda Carlisle.

(Bottle at SMÖF 2009) It poured a dark liquid with a small light dirty brown foam. It had a stingy smell of smoke and something burned. It had a smooth mouthfeel. Tasted of smoke and something burned. Nice but not very complex.

Bottle from The Beer Hall, Hawkshead Brewery, Staveley, Cumbria. Dark brown with a small beige head. Faint malt aroma with a little ash. Toffee malt taste, slightly overwhelmed by the carbonation and rather woolly bitter finish. This would be better from the cask.

Bottle. Roasted malt and molasses dominate, quite sweet.

Cask, Northampton Fest 09. Near black with a small beige foam. Aromas are roast malts with molasses and some oily notes. Hints of leather. Flavours are sweet coffee with caramel. Earthy and rich with hints of chocolate. A good porter.

Filtered, bottled. Dark brown-black in appearance. Initially, a floral aroma, with faint maltiness coming through. Doesn’t have the body of a true stout and it’s slightly too heavy for a mild. Towards the end, the roastiness comes through,as does blackcurrant and a hint of liqurice. Dry finish.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Coach & Horses, Wellingborough A black beer with an off white head. The aroma has good hops which seem to be US (the commercial description proves that) Soap also in the nose. The taste has more good hops as well as chocolate. A little sourness. Very tasty and interesting.

One of the bottles Traci brought back for me from her trip to the Lakes District. Deep brown, modest layer of gray-tan head. Raw green chocolate aroma, green plums, a touch of brine. Brine more forward in the flavor, along with a pleasant smokey/fish quality. Clean charcoal roast, grapeskin chalky finish. Dry parmesan exhale. Good depth, maybe a little light in body, but sound overall.
