Caramel malt flavour with just a hint of spicy hop flavour right before the sweet finish. Reminds me of Redhooks ESB. Aurelius (2654), Tallahassee, Florida, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Sep 17, 2002 All malt nose. Hazy tea colored brew with cool label, and griffin & barley emblem. Dinging it for the twistoff. Thin palate. Malty brew with a tea-herbal aftertaste. Not very balanced, but OK and a little different. BruceLeroy (77), North Dakota, USA

Goes very well with food if you drink one or two. Definately has a decent attempt at East Indian taste to it (whatever that means). East Indian food is the spiciest damn food I've ever tasted, but hey everyone loves spice. This beer sure as hell wouldn't put out any fire because of it's own natural hotness. Although, to be honest the only food I've ever tried it with was Italian. As said earlier this has no head, but I'm not necessarily sure that's what is meant to be accomplished with this. Also it has very low carbonation (a la no head). GOOD STUFF. Not an IPA as far as I know, though it could almost pass for one. I dislike IPA's, but this ale is great! This is definately the best offering from this brewer. Basically everything else they sell is crap.
RERATE:Just had a sixpack and boy has this stuff gone downhill!! No carbonation or flavor to speak of. This is nothing like the stuff I used to drink about a year ago. What happened??? belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA

| 2.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jun 24, 2002 look carefully in the lower left part of the label and you’ll see some text trying to remain unnoticed: it says ’an ale’. i checked several authorities and cannot confirm that ’an’ is a recognized style of ale. it’s true the ’bombay express’ is a rather small attempt to masquerade as india pale, so perhaps ’an’ is just a typo and what they meant is that it’s ale especially for ants. pour some on your patio and see what THEY think, the ants can have my share. pours mostly clear, light apricot color tho without a head. no explanation was given, the head was simply missing. a perfunctory search of the area turned up nothing. moderate peach crate nose. fairly metallic bitterness upset any presumed balance. it’s the second berger i’ve tasted in which that unbalanced bitterness brought aspartame to mind. and i dont want aspartame brought to mind, nor brought anywhere near me, especially my palette. booyaatribe (453), Chicago, Illinois, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 15, 2002 The malt flavors predominate in this beer. The sweet, malty taste is not well balanced by any hop flavor. There is an almost grainy nose. I suppose its not a bad beer, but I never have to have another one.
