Simple caramel aromas along with a touch of raisins and floral hops. Flavors follow aromas in simplicity, but things are a touch dryer than the fruit and caramel suggest. A bit like dry toast. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jul 21, 2002 Deep garnet in color, the head is beige and it vanishes quickly, leaving decent lace to coat the glass. Nose is malt, hints of caramel, sweet. Front is sweet, top light, the finish is nicely hopped, and a drinkable beer all in all. Ranks #766 on my master beer list. Drew (2410), Kent, Ohio, USA

I am begining to believe that all ’red’ ales have the same chalky on the roof of my mouth aftertaste. this one did as well as a tart funk that didn’t want to leave. just not good aracauna (2391), Georgia, USA

The appearance was nice with a big fluffy head that lasted for a while and seemed really dark for this color of a beer. The beer was dark for an amber, verging on brown. The aroma had me thinking this would be something worth drinking, nice sweet malt, slight fruitiness, but the flavor was a little bland even ending up a bit dry. jsquire (2113), St. Marys, Ohio, USA
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 30, 2002 Deep red color, nice fluffy head and a strong, malty nose. The flavor is all malty sweetness with an almost grainy after taste. I didn’t get much of a nutty flavor. Okay beer, I guess. TAR (2095), Boulder Co., Colorado, USA

Loads of caramel that make this beer wonderful. Quite unique, and by far, this brewers’ best offering. PhillyBeer2112 (2089), Orange Park, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 10/20 | Jul 9, 2002 Butterscotch and caramel aroma. Dark red color. Light beige head, weak retention, OK lacing. Deep malty flavor - warming, feels like a winter ale. Light hop bitterness and strong malt focus make this definitely unbalanced and hard to finish. Almost a wee heavy in some respects.
