Commercial Description:
Premier Brands - the Canadian license holder for Headstrong Pale Ale - have taken the unique move of using the brand for a new beer that is not brewed at the original home of Headstrong, Montana’s Big Hole Brewing. Headstrong Munich Lager is their new offering, and like the Pale Ale, it is contract brewed at FX Matt for the Ontario market.

Orange-amber in colour, fair sized off-white coloured head, some light and patchy lacing. The aroma is of light citric hops, caramel malt and pale malt, bready, some lemons. The flavour is of light pepper, bread, lots of pale malts, lightly sweet with caramel, light hops. Watery mouthfeel albeit lightly bitter, medium/light body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes lightly bitter but mostly watery and quick. What started out good just got more and more plain and simple.

650ml bottle from the LCBO in Toronto, Ontario for $2.95.
Purchased on February 10, 2007 and opened on March 18, 2007.
Crafted in October 2006.

Pours an orange-copper with a big soap sudsy head. Lacing remains throughout. Smells of grassy hops, wet grain, celery, bread dough, brown sugar. Mouthfeel is crisp with medium carbonation. Not overdone. Taste is grapefruit citrus, bitter hops finish, touch of aspirin, touch of caramel. Overall, a decent session. I quite enjoyed it, but it certainly doesn’t jump out at you and pull your hair, does it?

Orangy copper pour. Thin bubbly head. Fairly weak scent of hops. Very stron taste, lots of bitter hops. A thick tastes. Slight aftertaste but it fades quickly. A little overpowering at first. Lots more flavour then expected from a Candian Micro. Not bad.

Slight hazy, honey-orange hgue, with a small white head, but leaving laces, toasted malt nose, with a biscuity note, hint of toffee, a faint flowery hop accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a crisp fruity, toasted malt character, with a grainy accent, a mild floral hop note , leading towards a malty, grainy, lingering hop bettering finish.

650ml bottle. Pours an orange/copper colour with very little head. Aroma is mostly of malts, and sweet elements, almost like a tangerine. Taste is like the aroma, but well-balanced with some good hopping. I honestly have a bit of a sore throat right now, but this beer is smooth enough that it doesn’t hurt to drink. I like this one more than the headstrong pale ale. EDIT: The new 450mL canned version is a far cry from the bottled version. Weird fuel like flavours and overly alcoholic for something only 5.5%. Malt body is garbage now. Weak.

650ml bottle. Copper colour with a decently sized off white head. Aroma of grains, sweet malt, rounded off with some floral hops. Hops definately in the taste, as well as some malt and citrus( grapefruit?). Good mouthfeel and carbonation. This was a tasty and refreshing lager that I will have to buy again sometime soon.

650 mL bottle. Translucent orange-brown with almost no head at all. Mild, slightly sweet aroma. Taste is mild as well, and a little hoppier than usual, for the style. I think. Not bad, but nothing noteworthy.
