fiulijn (5880), Como; Lausanne (CH); Malmö (SWE), Italy Jan 9, 2007 Draught at the brewpub, Radio City Dark brown color. Sweetish aroma of roasted malt. Good taste of caramel and roasted malt, a bit milky, light sweetness. Interesting Schwarzbier. JoeMcPhee (3807), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Dec 2, 2006 Dark black beer with a creamy tan coloured non-nitro head. Aroma is soft and chocolatey, herbal hops throughout, a bit of earthiness and dust. Excellent flavour, rich dark chocolate over a bready vienna/munich maltiness. Milk chocolate sweetness leading into herbal noble hop flavour on the finish. Creamy palate. Delicious pint. ClarkVV (3547), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Jan 1, 2004 2003 6.5% ABV Version. Initially is almost black, but as it settles, clears up a good amount and becomes a brighter mahogany. Good amount of off-white head. Very sweet, with less roastiness than I would expect on the finish. Lots of chocolate velvet flavor. Quite rich and smooth. Good stuff, but not quite the best of style, but well made anyhow. Very even slight roast aroma, with a touch of hops. PorterPounder (2852), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Nov 28, 2005 On tap at their Times Square Location. Pours a dark ruby red fading to black with a mocha colored head. Good sweet licrorice like aroma wth some bittersweet chocolate notes. Flavor mimics the aroma with good sweet licorice notes and hints of coffee. Kind of like the Oatmeal stout’s baby lager brother. Very thick creamy mouthfeel and a strong finish. Overall, impressed. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA Jan 29, 2003 Updated: Nov 13, 2005Dark ruby in the glass. Chocolate and caramel malts. Somewhat bitter, but only in the aftertaste. Alcohol well hidden. I respect Heartland for attempting this style, bugt found it surprisingly bitter upon rerating.
