Dickinsonbeer (2466), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA May 7, 2006 On tap at Empire state building. Pours a nice deep dark black almost opaque, but has some ruby highlights around the edges- thin diminishing tan head. Aroma is estery yeasty and fruity with light cherry characteristics, light on the roast, and medium to high on the chocolate. Flavor is chocolate covered cherries, slightly tart, sweet most of the way through, and had a slightly slick finish. Pretty good overall, but nothing really stood out in this beer. Dogbrick (2165), Columbus, Ohio, USA Apr 13, 2006 Sample at the Heartland Chophouse: Pours black with a thin dark beige head that lasts pretty well. Small amount of lacing. Aroma of cherries, dark fruit and malt. Full-bodied with a nice roasty character. Flavors of malt, sweet spices and of course cherry. The finish is sweet and fruity with some malt and chocolate in the background. On one hand this is kind of scattered, but I like what they are doing with it. JoeMcPhee (3628), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Apr 10, 2006 Tap at the Empire State location. Dark brown-black beer with a thin brown head. Aroma is quite appealing, spicy clove, banana, some coriander but there is also a light milk chocolate maltiness with a hint of plumminess. Flavour is good as well. Belgian yeastiness and the above-mentioned spicy notes. Slight roastiness, but it’s subdued. Body is quite light and dry, spritzy mouthfeel. Lingering brown sugar and banana flavour with a toasty toffeeish finish. Really nice brew.
