Pour was modest with little carbonation and little head. The nose was ripe and lush, with candy apple goodness and some clove-like spice. Flvaor was right on, matching the aroma, and featuring the belgian yeast and some spice. Body was a little thin for the style, and the finish was non-descript.

Jul 25, 2005 More interesting than the other Heartland beers I had. Paler than I expected -- a blond, almost. Good spice to it, but underly complex yeast profile. Way to tame for me to think of as a Grand Cru, but at least they’re trying. Keep it up.

Jul 25, 2005 great start and wonderful on the ole snout, went down smooth for such an alchy bev, but sat rather blandly on the tongue afterwards.

Jun 4, 2005 i give major respect to any chain brewery that has the balls to do a grand cru, hell ya. A cloudy amerish color. Lots of spices, peppercorn coriander and some zest on the nose. Thick full body, lots of alcohol, weird rubber powder from the inside of hospital gloves tastes too. damm, much much respect to hearland for having the balls to brew something most people wouldnt like. this rules, well, rules for what i drank in nyc

Oct 17, 2004 Cloudy copper/gold color - medium head and very spicy nose, with some slight orange marmalade - alcohol is very evident - it tastes like honey and coriander, with the alcohol pushing its way in, burning the taste buds - totally unbalanced.

Oct 15, 2004 Tap @ Spuyten. Burnt orange color when held up to light, hardly any head. Aroma is leather and mango. The taste is sweet apricot, honey and smoky burnt leaves. Lively, effervescent mouthfeel. Finish is clean and slightly sweet.

Sep 8, 2004 Updated: Sep 20, 2004Hearty, red-brown color, slightly bitter. Feels...oddly healthy. Intoxicates you from deep down outward. You can feel the strength. Slightly reminded me of the "rust" flavor advertised for Concord Rapscallion Blessing.
