UofFkid (108), Orlando, Florida, USA May 25, 2007 Tap. I always try to sample the Barley wines wherever I go. This was a nice offering. Easy to drink. Had all the typical characteristics, just amazing this "chain" provides it. Pretty nice, not the best. scraff (1659), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Feb 24, 2007 Draft - Empire State Bldg. - Lightly hazed copper, thin off white head. Nose held warming rich notes of toasted caramel, orange peel, cherry, and toffee. Flavor was similar with orangey caramel and toffee tones from start to finish. Not my tastes at all for a BW. No outgoing hop flavors. Slight ABV heat noticeable as well. Full bodied, light carbonation, soft bittersweet finish. Worth a try, but nothing to go out of your way for... nhorween (505), New York, New York, USA Jan 8, 2007 Draft, Union Square. So, I love barley wines and I might be picky, but this one didn’t do it for me. All bitter notes and cheap sugar. Easy to drink, and lots of alcohol. but still, I’m not impressed. Just lacks the complexity that a beer needs to be "good." I’d recommend having it once, but that’s about it. apoptosis (1316), Long Island, New York, USA Dec 16, 2006 On tap at Spuyten, Brooklyn...This beer hid its high alcohol content very well, I thought, and it had a great balance of strong-bodied hops and sweetened, roasted malts. Lots of caramel going on. Sweet yet clean finish - not syrupy at all, like many barleywines. It’s pretty good overall, but its not like your typical barleywine because of all the hops. Ibrew2or3 (1705), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA Aug 5, 2006 On tap. It came with a deep copper color and nice tan head. The aroma was light. What I could smell was fruity-maltiness with a hint of spice presumably from the yeast. The flavor seemed a little light for a true Barleywine. There was sweet caramel maltiness that gave way to a little plum and date type fruit flavor. Nice light weight beer for the style.
