Shadrach (176), Brooklyn, New York, USA May 1, 2004 On tap at Brewery. I have to agree with aurelius, aroma is very light but it’s there, a bit malty/yeasty smell with a whiff of citrus underneath. Coloring is indeed "tawny", an orange, light brown clear appearance, which darkens near the middle and bottom of the glass. The taste is complex. It starts off very light with some hops at the end and some bitteness on the tongue. Then it starts to mature and you get sweetness on the very tip of your tongue combined with some sweetness AND bitterness coming in as well near the middle, then slight sweetness/spice at the end with a mellower hops like mini pop rocks. wnhay (722), Princeton, New Jersey, USA May 17, 2005 Only the 51st percentile? That is surprising. Nose was not real strong had some honey, citrus and caramel malts in it. Not real complex. Taste was really nice with the citrus and honey working quite well together. I like honey in my Maibocks and I certainly got that here. I would love to have this again. Papsoe (9999), Frederiksberg, Denmark Mar 16, 2005 (On tap) Dark golden and hence darker than the typical German Mai Bocks. Very fullbodied with a very alcoholic touch pointing towards whiskey(!) Both malty, spicy and hoppy. An extremely solid beer. Aurelius (2466), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jul 7, 2003 Pinky gold, without much head. Not much aroma -- in fact, I sniffed too deeply at the goblet and sucked some up my nose. Embarassing, that. Superbly balanced and refreshing otherwise. Lightly sweet, light citrus and hidden bittering masked the 7%ABV quite well. Light malts and gel character in the initial finish with a building, dry, hop-buzzed finish. Great stuff and probably too drinkable. rickgordon (3060), Göteborg, Sweden May 4, 2005 Draught at the Empire State location.
Amber colour. Fresh, sweet and somewhat citric nose. Sweet, very malty in flavour with a slight sourish touch. Grassy. Very full-bodied. Pils malt profile. ABV is pretty well hidden.
