"Elderberry Black Ale"
Introduced to Scotland by Welsh druids in the 9th Century, elderberry black ale was part of the Celtic Autumn festivals when the "elders" would make this strong ale and pass the drink round the people of the village. The recipe was taken from a 16th Century record of domestic drinking in the Scottish Highlands. Elderberries were used for many natural remedies to cure sciatica, other forms of neuralgia, influenza and rhumatism as they contain tannins and fruit oils.
Ebulum is made from roasted oats, barley and wheat boiled with herbs then fermented with ripe elderberries.
A rich black ale with fruit aroma, silky soft texture, soft roasted flavour and gentle finish.
Recommended with stewed and baked foods.
Drink lightly chilled from a straight glass.

Pours dark brown amber with a thin tan head. Aroma is spicy and a little funky kind of antiseptic even. Taste is sweet berry, cocoa, and alcohol with a thin body.

(bottle) Almost black coloured hue with a brown and short foamy head. Moderately sweet roast-malty aroma with caramel, berry-fruity (cassis) and spicy notes. Moderately sweet flavour with a tinge of bitterness, medium bodied with a smooth carbonation. Roast-malty base with notes of caramel, chocolate, leather and subtle berry-fruity notes; moderately dry and bitter finish with roasted malty, spicy hoppy and warming alcoholic notes. Likeable brew. 29.XI.09

Pretty strong roasted aroma with a slight fruity aroma (the elderberry I guess?). Poured a pitch black with a mall off white head that left little lacing. Good roasted malt flavor along with some chocolate, and dark fruit. Mouthfeel was pretty thin. Another unique and tasty beer from this brewery.

Tryed it out last night. One of my youtube channel’s should have the review video up. Veary dark,no carbination. I dunno what elderberries is going into this,so as for all the taste I was getting from it I am not quite sure. It’s one of them drink’s you just gotta try to find out for yer self. Hard for me to explane, but I liked it. Apone first smell it made me think of some desert chocolate type thing. I enjoyed it. You don’t taste the 6.5% in it and it go’s down easy(but may go fast since the bottle is a little shy of a serving. The bottle is 11.2oz NOT 12oz)I enjoyed it and yeah that’s that Peace!

Bottle: Roasty aroma, notes of smoke, some sweetish malts and hints of fruits. Black color, coffee like, brown head. Flavor is light sweet with fruity berry notes, intensive roasted malt notes, some dry cacao notes and hints of coffee. Dry, roasted malt and bitter hoppped end. Pleasant.

Pours a fading, but lasting ring of tan head with a brown, copper, oily looking body. Aromas of roasted malts and herbs. Flavors of soy, mint, roasted. Dry, sticky finish.
