Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

I tried this on December 13, 2008 after purchasing a 4 pack of "Historic Scottish Ales" from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a clear, hazy medium gold colour with a thin white head. The aroma is grassy malt, some floral notes, and a slight skunky smell. The mouthfeel is medium bodied, medium carbonation. The taste is earthy, malty, with more of a sour finish than a bitter finish.

Well it is different, but not really that complex or powerful. There is almost zero head and its a slightly murky orange color. It has a floral and citrus character and a clean finish. Kind of light.

pours an orangey-amber colour, barely-there head. nice maltiness, sweetness. a bit tinny. not much to it. on the watery side. all in all a very mediocre beer.

Pours an orangey color with a soapy tiny white head. Nose is skunky german hops and oxidized beer with a faint hint of clover honey. Taste is like watery grassy clover. Ever ate one of those pink flowers in the middle of a field? Thats exactly what this tastes like. Watery mouthfeel and a short finish. Id rather get drunk on fermented sewage than this set of heather ales from the williams brothers. Drain poured the entire set except ebolum.

bottle from LCBO: Hazy orange with small head. Shows spices, flowers and malts in the nose. Nice sweet/herbal taste with ginger and mint. Well-balanced. Quite obviously unique and quaffable.

Bottled. Wheat, malt, some meak berries in the aroma. Taste full and enjoyable, very balanced. Hoppy with heather. Hazy brown/orange, huge thick-bubbled white head.

11.2 oz bottle. golden and light cloudiness, white head. Floral and malty smells. Sweet like honey. Carbonated like soda. Not a strong aftertaste. I kinda like this.

330ml bottle, served cellar temperature, golden in a goblet with a thick, full white head. I smell dandelion, honey, some grass, bread and butter, lots of flowers, pomegranate. The mouthfeel is a little thin and fairly flat, but this thing has great head retention and decent lacing. The flavour starts out a bit like soda, sprite, then the heather hits: very floral, light, grassy, with bitter fruit, cranberry, some nuts, lemon.
