Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of honey, flowers, pear and fresh white meat fruits and a little peat. Medium orange amber hue with a small mostly diminishing head that left little lace. Flavor is sweet and herbal with an average finish. Palate is light bodied and watery flat. Different and not all together bad but it does have a good story.

500 ml bottle. Golden color, large full white head. Slightly spicy aroma, some alcohol. Malty flavor with some herbal notes, medium bitterness. medium-full body, medium carbonation. A curiosity, but nothing worth revisiting.

Pours a one finger white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Hazy amber color. Mellow sweet nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet, doughy and mellow. Better flavor as it warms. $4.10 for a 500ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.

(Bottle). Sweet honey aroma. Hazy golden body, small white head. Flavor is different, as should be expected. Honey, earthiness, well balanced. Mild but flavorful. A nice brew.

Crushed with Jakebra. This is a total Fraoch of a beer. Honey or something (heather?) on the nose or something. Fruity, sweet flavor and gives a nice, dry finish. Pretty aight.

Sparkling copper, foaming soapy pale head. Slightly metallic, pizza dough-like aroma, reminds me of a martini, mild funky sourness, feels quite thin. Same funk in the flavor, along with peppery herbs, little metallic maltiness. Lingering herbal & toffeeish finish. Light bodied, average bulky palate. Sourish and light brew, but manages to be somewhat interesting. I had a small piece of flora in my bottle, so I guess that could have caused some of that funk.
