Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

500 ml bottle. Clear yellow-orange colur, thin white head. Sweet malts, flowers and fruits in the aroma. Sweet caramel malty flavour, with fruits and nuts. A little thin on the palate, but the carbonation is nice and smooth. Mildly spicy finish.

Pours a slightly hazy bronzy orange colour with no head. Nose is a little bit piney with plenty of sweet malts there too. A little bit of hay, and some flowery notes. Nice. Flavour is similar, very sweet, lots of sugary malts, and some light fruits. There is a bit of the pine in the finish, but not very much and it is somewhat flowery. It is a bit watery, but the carbonation is right on.

Pours golden with a fizzy white head. Super heavy aroma. Aroma is of weak malt, citrus, floral notes, and bubblegum. Taste is very weak malt, with notes of bubblegum, honey, lemon zest, and a light hoppiness. Very light mouthfeel. Not an outstanding beer at all, but it is very drinkable and the price was right.

Bottle. Aroma has notes of honey, flowers, pear and fresh white meat fruits and a little peat. Medium orange amber hue with a small mostly diminishing head that left little lace. Flavor is sweet and herbal with an average finish. Palate is light bodied and watery flat. Different and not all together bad but it does have a good story.

500 ml bottle. Golden color, large full white head. Slightly spicy aroma, some alcohol. Malty flavor with some herbal notes, medium bitterness. medium-full body, medium carbonation. A curiosity, but nothing worth revisiting.

Pours a one finger white head that fades quickly to a thin layer leaving some lace. Hazy amber color. Mellow sweet nose. Light carbonation and medium bodied. Flavor is sweet, doughy and mellow. Better flavor as it warms. $4.10 for a 500ml bottle from Tully’s Beer & Wine Wells, Me.
