TearsforBeers (171), Ohio, USA Nov 1, 2008 Aroma - This is the best smelling beer I’ve ever encountered. Other beers smell good, but this one is unique and glorious. It smells like the spices in sausage, flowers, evergreens, most of all, like Thomas Hardy’s Egdon Heath.
Appearance - clear pumpkin with moderate white head
taste - pine, heath, slightly bitter, bitterness similar to hops, but with more warmth on the back of the tongue
palate - thin, watery
dirt55 (150), Washington, USA Oct 30, 2008 bottled, poured dark yellow with medium white head, very light aroma...nothing stands out, very light malt aroma, watery palate, again nothing really standing out daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Oct 18, 2008 Yuck. Cloudy gold color. Aroma is very weak and not interesting. I know they used some cool ingredients in this one, but it doesnt smell or taste like it. Flavor is very boring and I don’t find it pleasant. Taste is grainy and odd and just poor. illidurit (851), Santa Cruz, California, USA Oct 17, 2008 500 mL bottle poured into a mug. Slightly hazed goldenrod color with a very weak off-white head. Even with vigor this beer produces hardly any foam, and what little is there collapses within a minute.
Aroma strikes of rosemary and doughy malt. Reminds me precisely of rosemary sourdough bread dipped in olive oil.
Lightly malty with a honey sweetness and a dose of semi-bitter rosemary. Well-balanced.
Carbonation is moderate, body is medium-thin, finish is bone dry and short.
Quite drinkable but lacks complexity and doesn’t keep my interest very long. Rciesla (3500), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Oct 14, 2008 Wow crazy artwork, are they compensating? Pours a hazy golden body with a big floral aroma. Some burnt malt, spice of pepper and cinnamon, and the floral herbal finish playing a huge role. Something different but not for me. Ober (1161), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Oct 10, 2008 A hazy yellow/golden colored beer, with a nice white head. The aroma of flowers, some malts, hops, a little fruits and spices. The taste of spices like pepper and clove, fruits like orange and citrus. It’s bitter and warming. The aftertaste is also bitter and it stays warm/burning for awhile. brew4fun (167), West Virginia, USA Oct 9, 2008 12 oz. bottle. Pours cloudy golden, minimal short-lived head. Moderate floral aroma. Flavor of sweet light malt, more of the floral character. Slightly bitter, thin body, dry finish. Overall: nothing to dislike, but not much to like either. As this is my first heather ale, I really have nothing to compare it to. Low in aroma, carbonation, flavor. I would not go out of my way for this one, but would select it over commercial pale lagers any day. boFNjackson (1233), Portland, Oregon, USA Oct 8, 2008 This beer seems underrated on here. I thought it was really good. Bottle... Poured a hazy orange with a white head. Aroma was a little skunky with with hops and berries probably from the heather flowers. Despite the look of this ale (as being light), it definitely has some substance and depth to the flavors. Well carbonated with strong, floral, leafy flavors with some tartness probably from the malted barley. Pretty tasty.
