Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

A hazy yellow/golden colored beer, with a nice white head. The aroma of flowers, some malts, hops, a little fruits and spices. The taste of spices like pepper and clove, fruits like orange and citrus. It’s bitter and warming. The aftertaste is also bitter and it stays warm/burning for awhile.

12 oz. bottle. Pours cloudy golden, minimal short-lived head. Moderate floral aroma. Flavor of sweet light malt, more of the floral character. Slightly bitter, thin body, dry finish. Overall: nothing to dislike, but not much to like either. As this is my first heather ale, I really have nothing to compare it to. Low in aroma, carbonation, flavor. I would not go out of my way for this one, but would select it over commercial pale lagers any day.

This beer seems underrated on here. I thought it was really good. Bottle... Poured a hazy orange with a white head. Aroma was a little skunky with with hops and berries probably from the heather flowers. Despite the look of this ale (as being light), it definitely has some substance and depth to the flavors. Well carbonated with strong, floral, leafy flavors with some tartness probably from the malted barley. Pretty tasty.

330ml bottle: pours golden brown with minimal white head, aroma has a slight hint of malt, flavor has a very dry malt ofset by a slight bitterness but im not even sure if there are hops in this, it could be the taste from the heather but its very interesting bitterness. all in all this beer gets an A for effort on the style but just a pretty good beer over all.

Pours a cloudy dark yellow with a very small, disappearing head. Aroma is floral, fruity and malty sweet. Flavor is of chewy malt followed by a dry finish. Not bad, but nothing too special either.

Poured a bit of a hazy golden color with a thin white head. Smell was really very fruity and floral, very pleasant. The flavor was something else entirely though, kind of dry and puckering. Very much like the dry white wine in the description. Interesting mix of the two sense in this beer. Very interesting.

Poured a dark yellow color with a white head. Aroma was very spicey, hard to put my nose on anything in particular. Flavor was maltniess, some spices and a hint of hops in the finish.

A golden ale with a thin white head. A seet honey malt with signs of oxidation. In mouth, a sweet musty malt, with light cardboard, surranated hops. Medium bodied. BB April 2007. LCBO giftbox, xmas 2006.
