Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Heather and BEER ! THESE are wierd. Earthy smells and flavors. I imagined the vikings drinking this before ransacking a villaging and killing its inhaitants. The poor picts didn’t standd a chance or maybe it was the scotts drinking the beer. Either way. vedry good

Bottle. Very fragrant. Lots of floral notes. The heather definitely stands out. There’s also some pine, herbs and wet forest. Pours golden/copper with a nice creamy white head. Some honey, grass, hay and malt on the palate. Body starts fairly full but finishes pretty watery. A nice beer, though.

Lots of suspended particles sometimes but the color is nice. Smell of honey, flowers, and herbs. The Fraoch Heather Ale is like drinking the forest. Even if it is on the thin side, I believe it might be one of my favorite of the Heather beers. It is intensely herbal and wholly unique. Slight camphor taste. Dry and astringent. It’s also light and quaffable.

Bottle, Had this in a rather nice ceramicy old fashioned Fraoch mug/cup that I picked up with a bottle of Fraoch a few years ago, so unfortunately the colour is a bit of a mystery to me. Honey on the nose along with defiante floral notes. Tasted a little floral, some honey, and garden herbs. A good beer and despite having had this frequently it still remains a very interesting beer.

Bottle-Cloudy amber color w/a white head. Sweet floral aroma. Sweet malt flavor of fruit w/some traces of pine, grass, honey, & peat. Dry finish. Drinkable, but unspectacular. Just not much to it.

(Bottle) Pours hazy light amber. Spicy, floral and almost a bit bubblegum like aroma with tones of heather, mint and sweet gale. A bit earthy. Rather sweet and fruity with red apples up front but also some notes of sweet pears. Spicy and floral flavour with heather, mint and sweet gale. Quite malty and light sour. Abrupt finish. Light to medium mouthfeel and body.
