Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

A friend of mine had been looking for this beer for several years, and he looked like the happiest guy alive when i brought him this. Light amber coloured, medium white head. Flowery aroma. Sweet malty flavour, flowery notes are still present. Very refreshing. Nice brew.

Fraoch is a light amber ale with a bubbly white head that mostly diminishes. It has a lot of aroma! It’s medicinal and grassy and sweet like honey or candy. It is very smooth-- medium bodied with a mineral finish. The flavor is more of the same: herbal, grassy, candy. Very unique!

From the bottle. Aroma is sweet with caramel malt forward with light roast tones and some heather. Appearance is light gold with a persistant white head. Flavor is sweet malt with herb tones forward followed by some slight sour and tart flavors. Mouthfeel is medium/light bodied with good creaminess and even a creamy finish. Overall, very good, well made and not too sweet for such an old style. The sourness even works as a fairly good compliment.

[417-20070709] 330mL (By Dec-07). Sweet evergreen and heathery floral aroma, reminds me of Pinesol cleaning solution. Clear, golden orange brown body with a quick bubbly off-white head. Sweet licorice background flavour lies on a bed of hay with an aftertwang. Medium body is watery. Unlike its pack brothers, this is drinkable and non-offensive.

Bottle. Deep orange with a patchy head. Aroma is sweet citrus with a touch of pine. Flavor is sourish with a very unique resiny tinge. Really different and enjoyable. Thick and full-bodied.

big floral notes in the aroma, kinda like rose water. flavour is much the same. It definitely does a good job being what it is, but i dont like the floral flavour.

Appearance: Pours a clear, coppery gold with three fingers of white head that quickly subsides to a thin froth. Lots of carbonation evident. Smell: Floral and sweet, with heather notes evident. Taste: Sweet flavourful malt fading into an herbal heather middle, with honeyed citrus coming through in the finish. Mouthfeel: Light bodied, crisp taste with snappy carbonation. Drinkability: Givvus another, willya? Extremely drinkable.

12oz bottle from Ron’s in Farmington. Slightly hazy amber-red body with a thin film of off-white head. Floral and fruity in scent, somewhat reminiscent of banana, though not like a Hef. Tastes fruity, floral, and somewhat nutty. The nut and banana-like qualities dominate the flavor. though that’s not quite accurate. Medium in body. Tasty and quite drinkable, as well as unique. Not similar to most beers I’ve ever had, but I could definitely see drinking this one again. Delicious.
