Blackbarrel (116), new york, New York, USA Jan 13, 2007 Unique. I got the feeling this was not meant to be served refridgerator cold, which makes sense. A wine-ish aroma and taste, flowers, reminded me aof kava. Smoke, hops, alcahol, dish water. Historical interest rather than a regular quaff. lowg (123), Scarborough, Ontario, Canada Jan 12, 2007 Second beer from the Historic Ales of Scotland gift pack. This one poured a thick cloudy golden amber with practically no head. Aroma was malty with a hint of citrus. Flavour was a mostly fruity/citrusy with a tiny bit of malt here and there. Pretty good, but was kinda expected more. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 12, 2007 Hop malt aroma with smokey finish. Murky red amber colour no no head or lacing. Hop malt aroma with smokey finish. Smooth palate. shintriad (698), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Dec 31, 2006 I found this very weak and insipid. A one-dimensional herbal flavour dominates, not much of a malt or hop backbone to hold it up. Very flat and watery to boot. I’m not hugely impressed by this offering. AFrost (6), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada does not count Dec 29, 2006 Bottle, 500ml, 5%alc., purchased at BCLDB. Colour was a cloudy golden with a thin head. Floral nose. Refreshing but uninspiring taste. Was worth the experience but likely won’t try it again. STEPHENDR (478), California, USA Dec 28, 2006 12 oz. bottle- color of golden orange, with thin white quickly departing head - nose of malts , cobwebs , hopps , floral , and hay – taste of oak barrels , spices , earthy , mild hopps and malts - body thin , and crisp – aftertaste of hopps and short Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Dec 26, 2006 Partly cloudy golden body topped by a little white ring of foam. Smell is horrible. The due date is 8 months from now so it cannot be because it is past due date. Plus there’s no typical signs of infection. It just stinks. Like rotting fruits and vegetables left in a hot humid sunny room for a week. Gross. Oh, and some malt caramel too. After pinching my nose I realized the taste was “fortunately” just boring. The attack is thin/watery, then it develops flavours of cereals and ripe peaches. Average carbonation, medium body. I would rate it as just a boring English ale but the smell was just atrocious. I hope there was something wrong with my bottle. They brag about “Heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world”, well, my bottle smelled like if it was part of the first batch. coldbrewky (716), Saugerties, New York, USA Dec 22, 2006 33o ml bottle Room temp. A light critter that reminds me of mountain fields. Cloudy at the pour and light head that fades gently. Thin to med body. flowery aroma blends nicely with mouthfeel. Nice even finish. Don’t chill this brew too much the nuances will be lost quickly. I wish I could get this on tap. Kind of like a Magic hat #4.25.
