Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

I really liked this beer, and it could be a great everyday beer. In fact, I think that I could drink it all day long, like iced tea. Aroma of honey, wildflowers, spice and a hint of licorice. Tasted a bit like iced tea beer. You notice that it has no hops. Special thanks to my wife, Peggy, aka Quillaraymi, for bringing this beer down from Atlanta.

Bottle:Cloudy gold with a small white head. Sweet and fruity herbal tea aromas abound in this "traditional" brew. The taste is equally sweet with a herbal malty finish. I also notice some peppermint, peat moss and ginger. It’s a nice idea to get back to the ancient brewing practices, but let me just say that I am glad to be alive in 2006 in the Northwest where hoppy IPA’s abound. I don’t know how someone could drink stuff like this on a regular basis.

Pours hazy dark orangish golden with a thin, off-white head. Aroma of flowers, candied pine sap, heather, and lavender. Mouthfeel is thin bodied and dry with very soft carbonation.

Bottled. Dark orangeish colour, small white head. Aroma is nails from conifer along with hops and malts. Flavour is malty and spicy with some harsh hoppiness in finish. Not very pleasant flavour.

Bottled (BB 10/2007). Dark honey golden color, small white head. Herbal aroma: birch leaves, pinewood. Light spicey, peppery flavor, dry. A bit similar to some Belgian ales.

Had this one bottled (thanks Arnie!). Deep golden straw pour with a lacy white head, sweet bread in the nose, quite sweet with notes of clover honey and gin. Not great, but not bad.
