Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Very flat looking, golden bronze body with a touch of green. Sweet, I couldn’t have too many, almost port like.

Hazy orange, bubbly white head. Yeasty, fruity nose with some hints of red berries and alcohol. Some lemon and spices is present. Quite thin bodied and watery. Slight acidic finish with notes of earth and lingonberry.

Pretty unoffensive, but not that special at the same time. Poured an amber color with a thin white head that dissipated quickly and laced only ok. The aroma was hard to pick up, somewhat off and metallic. The flavor was based on light pale and caramel malts with honey, oranges, and light floral (heather if they say so) aspects. Somewhat dry in the aftertaste and touched with some metallic tones. Again, like their other ales, neat to try, but nothing to drink regularly.

Has a very recognizable scent, although I can’t figure out what it is. Quite annoying, actually :) Aroma is sweet, sour in a refreshing way, reminds you of some sorts of dessert berries. Colour is light amber, clear. Light head. Flavour: Heather (surprise!), sweet, spicy, slightly sour, slightly bitter. Medium body, medium texture, average carbonation, nice bitter finish.

Pours a tinted orange. Orange peel, coriander, mint flavours. Herbal yet smooth.

Orange haze into the glass... no head and very little lace. Aromas of dough and yeast, with some earth tones mixed in. Interesting flavors present... Definite floral notes with spices. Mouthfeel is definitely dry and short-lived. It does feel somewhat crisp, without being watery, but it’s definitely a special occasion brew. It’s earned enough in the complexity dept., but really deserves to be paired with an appropriate meal.

Hazy orange amber. Earthy aroma, elements of hay and honey. I’m getting absolutely none of the flowery/spicy notes that others have described. Very malty palate, again earthy with a subtle ginger spice note every now and then, but generally just malty. I’m wondering whether this has sat on the shelf for many months and lost some of its character, as I failed to appreciate any of the "wine-like" or floral elements that have been described by the brewer and by other raters. Shared with Tyler Durden.

Bottle. Pours pale golden-yellow. Aroma is a strange floral. Taste is very weak, nothing distinctive at all. Disappointing.
