Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

Clear amber or yellow. Head quickly disappearing. Characteristic but undescernable aroma -- perhaps these small artificial berries that is sometimes put on top of deserts? When you taste it though, the heather is clear. When you hail from west jutland, you know the smell of the heath. The flavour is spicy and a wee bit sour. Interesting, but a bit one dimensional.

Pours to a hazy copper, with very thin white head and minimal lacing. Very strong floral, perfumy aroma. Initial tastes were of floral. At mid-glass, taste of malt and spices crept in, and I even detected hints of alcohol. Although I enjoyed the flavor, the finish came on very quickly, and was much too dry for my tastes. I have to say that this beer is much better than the other product of their’s that I’ve had....Alba Scot’s Pine Ale. However, I’ll stick to hops in my beer, and leave the heather to beautify the Scottish countryside.

murky peaty water colour. Spritzy mouthfeel.Tangy flowery/heathery aroma and finish. Began to enjoy it more towards end of pint, as I began to adjust to it.. couldve done with another to rate further. Another bottle yesterday. Room temperature this time and I enjoyed it immensely. Head was huge, lovely and lasted. Soapy/creamy muthfeel.

Dark golden, clear with little head. Scent of bitter hops, citrusy and perfumed malts. Slight honey flavour but not much there, slightly acidic bitter aftertaste. Too creamy on the palate, but alive rather than fizzy.

Very unassertive and boring aroma. Slight flowers, thats mostly it. Mostly similar taste, with a touch of corn. Really, it doesn’t taste like anything. Very drinkable and no off flavors, though.

Bottled. Golden beer with a white head. No carbonation. Spicy aroma with ginger, caramel and malt. Malty flavor with spices and caramel. Lightly dusty mouthfeel. Dry, bitter finish. Rating: 7-3-7-3-14-3.4. (060422)

Bottle. A slightly hazy golden beer with a fingerthick white head. Heathery nose with sweet pale malts and a flowery touch. A hint of ginger too maybe. Sweet malts, heather and some flowery notes. There’s some ginger-like notes in the flavor too, but without the almost soapy touch there’s to ginger. Medium body. Sweet, almost sugary towards the finish with heather, pale malts and some bitterness. Drying up in the very end. A nice and slightly quenching beer, but a bit on the sweet side. Like it. (090629)
