Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

12/28/05 casked @ The Ginger Man. This was my first casked brew and this was what I was expecting except this beer wasn’t overally impressive. Pours a thin white head and a hazy copper color. Strong caramel apple nose. No carbonation which is par for a cask beer to my knowledge. Not watery but a more or less flat ending. Very sweet beer especially at the end. Decent brew.

Interesting, but not probably something I?d try again. The aroma has fair bitter floral and strong yeast smells. It?s very thin in the mouth. Definitely floral in flavor, with a honey aftertaste. Had I not read it was an ale, I might have pegged it as a lager, as it tastes more like a lager to me.

Good stuff. This may be my 1st heather beer. It tastes a bit like a scotch ale and a bit like a darker beer (stout or porter) b ut is not at all dark in color. It has a slight crisp, sweetness to it that is very cool. I like it!

Poured from a bottle, a cloudy orange color with a thin, bubbly white head. Aroma of dried fruit, caramel malt and a light floral spice. Odd sweet and spicey flavor with perfume, brown sugar, dried fruit and some spruce. The body is medium with an oily texture and very soft, almost flat, carbination. I think I know why hops became popular.

Peaty, malty, and herbal, but balanced nicely. Enjoyable, but not a taste for everyone. Mildly fruity and with a touch of sweetness.

Bottl.e Nutmeg and ginger aroma. Orange amber color with slight head. Slightly sweet ginger-nutmeg flavor - very similar to eggnog . Tastes like a draught except for some light carbonation. A very enjoyable beer.

Pours a subdued orangish yellow. Aromas of semi-sweet floral, smoke, and earthy notes. Flavor is honey like with a dandelion like floral tart. Not to bad, but I expected more.

Dull orange body with a loose, soapy white head. Aroma of butterscotch, light caramel, corn syrup, and mild herbal notes. Palt malt flavor with a light crystal component. Moderately sweet and honey-like with apple notes, a touch of sweet nectarine, building herbal spice, and very low bitterness. Medium to medium-thin body. A light, easy-drinking beer with some subtle intrigue but nothing especially enthralling.
