Strange sweetish aroma of unidentifiable herbs, probably heather. Taste is light sweetish herbal with honey notes. Aftertaste is dry and metallic. Very interesting, and quite nice. (0.5l bottle.) Strong spiced aroma that is mellowed by the flowery scent. Moderate carbonation. Long lasting head. Smooth tasting with a perfume flavor. Interesting beer. Smoother than the Highland brewing Heather ale. JK (2961), Richfield, Minnesota, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 3, 2005 Some apple aroma, and lots of herbs. I was looking forward to a peat aroma, e.g, Islay peat like in scotch, but it is not found. Copper color. Flavor is spicy, what Americans would describe as Italian spices. Chalky dryness in the finish. A well made beer, but I don’t think I am into heather. shrubber85 (2934), Wallhalben, Germany
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 19, 2005 Bottl.e Nutmeg and ginger aroma. Orange amber color with slight head. Slightly sweet ginger-nutmeg flavor - very similar to eggnog . Tastes like a draught except for some light carbonation. A very enjoyable beer. beerbuzzmontreal (2911), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Oct 17, 2004 Cloudy amber color, thin white head. Herbal aroma, the flavor is herbal and slightly spicy. Oily texture, light body, soft carbonation. I think the beer was a bit too old since I expected a more powerfull herbal flavor, but still it was ok. skortila (2905), Bunnik, Netherlands
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Sep 9, 2003 I was pretty amazed by this one. For some reason my expectations weren't too high. However the aroma was quite good; sweet, peach, some malts. Appearance was okay, poors out with a nice head (doesn't last) orange/amber coloured. Cloudy. Taste is hoppy, peachy and some smooth malts. Bit watery. Clean, smooth, dry palate. Quite okay. BMan1113VR (2897), Los Angeles (and Dallas), Texas, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 10, 2008 Light brown, small head covering a murky dull orange body. Head leaves a ring and some lacing. Small particles present. Honey and sweet malts in the aroma. Taste is kind of watery and boring. Some honey, malts, something slightly herbal, but not much body. Watery, fizzy, and forgetable. Glouglouburp (2865), Montreal, Quebec, Canada
| 1.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 1/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 5/20 | Dec 26, 2006 Partly cloudy golden body topped by a little white ring of foam. Smell is horrible. The due date is 8 months from now so it cannot be because it is past due date. Plus there’s no typical signs of infection. It just stinks. Like rotting fruits and vegetables left in a hot humid sunny room for a week. Gross. Oh, and some malt caramel too. After pinching my nose I realized the taste was “fortunately” just boring. The attack is thin/watery, then it develops flavours of cereals and ripe peaches. Average carbonation, medium body. I would rate it as just a boring English ale but the smell was just atrocious. I hope there was something wrong with my bottle. They brag about “Heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world”, well, my bottle smelled like if it was part of the first batch.
