Commercial Description:
Bottle: Filtered
Brewed in Scotland since 2000 B.C. heather ale is probably the oldest style of ale still produced in the world. From an ancient Gaelic recipe for "leann fraoich" (heather ale) it has been revived and reintroduced to the Scottish culture.
Into the boiling bree of malted barley, sweet gale and flowering heather are added, then after cooling slightly the hot ale is poured into a vat of fresh heather flowers where it infuses for an hour before being fermented.
A light amber ale with floral peaty aroma, full malt charachter, a spicy herbal flavour and dry wine like finish.
Recommended with rich and Spicy foods.
Drink slightly chilled from a fluted glass.

From a bottle at the Brew Shack in Tampa. The color of a brackish river. Cloudy amber. No head to speak of, but I expected that. Smells like a freshly snapped pine branch. Sharp and crisp smelling. There is something unique in the taste though it ends watery it starts off with something that is completely uncomparable and it has some bite to the tip of the tongue. The weak spot to this ale is it’s mouthfeel. It’s watery and even the impressive and unique flavor doesn’t cover up the melted gelatin feel it has on the mouth. I could drink it all day long if my choices were limited, but the watery taste really ruins the effect.

Have been putting off drinking this for a long while now, wanted to make sure I could get it fresh. Bottle. Laid back aroma isn’t sweet, but has shiny pale malts and a handful of herbs and spices, ans some light pepper. Clear golden body with a creamy white head. Good malt base, lots and lots of heather give a lovely, distinctive taste. Dry and very faintly yeasty, with rounding spice in the back and really pleasing notes of gale, the quality of which I haven’t tasted since Heavyweight was still making gruit. Just a touch of bread, very faint, and a blend of whisky and honey. Very well balanced and enjoyable in both large and small quantities. Sustaining, vinous medium body. Gorgeous floral treat!

(bottle - 500 ml) Slightly cloudy copper color with a soapy white head. Aroma is lightly sweet with some spice and some smoky notes. Almost a mint-like aroma. Flavor is very herbal and minty at the beginning with some dry and bitter hops near the middle. Finishes dry and clean with some light sweetness.

Cloudy yellow in color. Dry like flavors, I think dry white muscat grapes. Fruity aroma. Malty. Really good.

Very interesting...sweet floral aroma and sweetish flavor with floral notes surely from the heather. Def wine like finish. Becomes a bit overwhelming.
